About Jani
While originally from Queens, NY, Jani has strong roots in Upstate South Carolina, having attended Spartanburg High School and now residing in Greenville.
Jani spent the last 10 years serving in the US Army and Army National Guard. Jani first enlisted as a 91B- a light-wheeled vehicle mechanic for four years before commissioning as a 92A- Quartermaster Officer.
While on a Joint Task Force mobilization in 2023, Jani began to suffer from kidney complications that led to kidney failure. After several surgeries and procedures, Jani was sent to a Soldier Recovery Unit (formerly Warrior Transition Unit) for further care and rehabilitation. After several more procedures and complications, Jani suffered an undisclosed neurological attack that resulted in loss of mobility and sensation throughout the left side of her body, causing hemiparesis and severe foot drop.
While recovering, Jani was introduced to adaptive sports and different organizations that host and support adaptive sports and athletes. Jani enjoys participating in as many adaptive sports as she can throughout the year but mostly focuses on archery due to a particular fulfillment she receives while holding her bow. She competes in the P1 Para Senior Women Recurve division in archery.
